چکیده

The natural abundances of stable carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) isotopes (δ13C δ15N) are extensively used to indicate the C N biogeochemical cycles at large spatial scales. However, patterns δ13C δ15N in plant-soil systems grasslands northern China their main driving factors across regional climatic gradient still not well understood. We measured plant soil compositions as associated environmental 2000 km (-0.2 9 °C; 152 502 mm) China. values surface were lower than those bottom for temperate typical steppe but had no significant differences meadow desert steppe. Soil declined with increasing organic (SOC) increased mean annual temperature (MAT). These changes attributed microbial decomposition rate. negatively correlated MAT precipitation (MAP), which mainly related low matter mineralization rate shift dominant species from C4 C3. Our results different influencing on along findings will provide scientific references future research grasslands.

Effects of Water and Nitrogen Addition on Species Turnover in Temperate Grasslands in Northern China

Global nitrogen (N) deposition and climate change have been identified as two of the most important causes of current plant diversity loss. However, temporal patterns of species turnover underlying diversity changes in response to changing precipitation regimes and atmospheric N deposition have received inadequate attention. We carried out a manipulation experiment in a steppe and an old-field ...

Variation in the Stable Carbon and Nitrogen Isotope Composition of Plants and Soil along a Precipitation Gradient in Northern China

Water availability is the most influential factor affecting plant carbon (δ(13)C) and nitrogen (δ(15)N) isotope composition in arid and semi-arid environments. However, there are potential differences among locations and/or species in the sensitivity of plant δ(13)C and δ(15)N to variation in precipitation, which are important for using stable isotope signatures to extract paleo-vegetation and ...

The effect of metabolic rate on stable carbon and nitrogen isotope compositions in deer mice, Peromyscus maniculatus

The stable isotopic compositions of nitrogen and carbon in animal tissues reflect diet. However, factors other than diet can also affect these stable isotope ratios, leading to misinterpretations of diet composition. To test the hypothesis that variation in metabolic rate alters the isotopic compositions of tissues, deer mice (Peromyscus maniculatus (Wagner, 1845)) were kept at three temperatur...

Effects of Nitrogen Addition on Nitrogen Resorption in Temperate Shrublands in Northern China

Nutrient resorption from senescing leaves is a key mechanism of nutrient conservation for plants. The nutrient resorption efficiency is highly dependent on leaf nutrient status, species identity and soil nutrient availability. Nitrogen is a limiting nutrient in most ecosystems, it is widely reported that nitrogen resorption efficiency (NRE) was highly dependent on the soil nitrogen availability...
